Windows 7 Thunderbird 68.6.0 (64-bit)

When I click on Print Preview under 'File' I get a glimpse of a popup window:

   Print Preview
   Title: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
   Preparing... Progress

I then get a larger window with the header

   xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - Thunderbird

After a fraction of a second they both disappear.

This seems to be a long standing issue with Thunderbird.

There is absolutely no diagnostic information.

Right, it may be bad form to reply to your own problem but.....

I went to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor..

Accepted the risk of here be dragons and types print in the search bar.

In here were a number of old printers I haven't used for ages. So......

I deleted the unused printer driver and remnants as per:

 https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-manually-uninstall-a-printer-driver-in-Windows.html

For some explained reason I can now use print preview.

There may have been a number of other actions I took so not uncertain if this was the 'whole' story.
