I have a MacBook Air running MacOS X 10.15.2 Catalina with Intel HD Graphics 6000 and Firefox just updated automatically to 85.0. Since the update, I cannot launch Firefox - it opens and then immediately hangs so I have to do a Force Quit as system says Firefox is not responding. Strangely, if I launch Safari first then launch Firefox, everything is OK even though I do not actively use Safari after it is launched and quit it as soon as Firefox opens. I would prefer not to have to launch Safari before starting my preferred browser. No crashes have been logged because it fails to fully open. Any ideas?

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Hi, Thanks for that but I don't think that is the issue. I disconnect from the internet when not needing it and start up Firefox in offline mode. It hangs even before wi-fi is turned on. The Safari first solution still seems the only way of working with Firefox, either with wi-fi on or off at launch.

Hi, since there seems to be some interaction with Safari, try restarting your Mac.
