How do you stop Firefox from installing automatically? I want to install it on my d drive, but the option never comes up. I uninstalled Firefox, removed the %appdata% and restarted the PC as well., but the dialog box never comes up.

Hi David, if you download a full installer, you should get the option to choose where to place the program folder. See:

Custom installation of Firefox on Windows

Then after starting Firefox, you can create a new profile and set up its folder outside your %APPDATA% path. However, I think Firefox will still maintain the index files (profiles.ini and installs.ini) under %APPDATA% so it knows where you put your profile folder(s).

Creating a New Profile

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name, say, May2021.

When you choose your new folder, make sure to create a dedicated folder for your profiles, don't use a folder that contains other files.

Finally, click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so it should be used automatically at your next startup.

Scroll down to May2021 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window independent from your existing one. Assuming it works, you can close the original window with the Profile Manager page.
