I down loaded on first day and updated. Went into Private Browsing by clicking the PB option. Opened several tabs and then closed Firefox 4.0 by using the upper right hand "X" button. Now when I open or close Firefox I can not get it to come out of Private Browsing, by clicking on the Stop Private Browsing option. It also looks like my history is not being deleted.

I fell back to firefox 3.6. I did find that somehow "Automatically start Firefox in private browsing session" was on. I will try and reload and see how it works.

You can also try Ctrl+Shift+P.

I had tried that when I first ran into the problem, but it did not function.

Make sure that the -private switch is not appended to the command line of the Firefox desktop shortcut.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you for all the help. When I first tried to install 4.0 I had 3.6 open in browse mode. The installation said to close Firfox 3.6.xx so I did. Evidently this corrupted the installation of 4.0. I can not verify which of your two solutions would have worked, but I believe both or one or the other definitely would have worked, since I had fallen back to 3.6.xx and cleaned up the image. When I reinstalled 4.0 with Firefox closed everything appears to be working. I would really like to give you a big THANK YOU for all the great support.
