When I open Firefox 5, all is well and I can surf web sites except for gmail. The login page appears but once I sign in, the page goes white/blank, nothing happens except for an announcement (top left) stating "Mozilla Firefox (Not Responding)". The ONLY way out is to cancel the program. Nothing will correct it. However, if I use IE gmail works as normal, but I do not want to use IE. This problem has occured dozens of times today as I try to remedy the problem, not just a few times. It coincided with upgrading to Firefox 5 yesterday. I have since reverted to F4, but this also no longer works and I have gone foreward again to F5. Please help as soon as possible

I have a problem with FF5 crashing as well, but I can log in and do many things, but it will hang when I do something specific, like open a message in my drafts or open some other message. It is very consistent and will crash on that action every time. It completely crashes the browser but it does not go away. It becomes unresponsive to everything and must be killed.

Also I'm not very happy that I was forced to upgrade to FF5. I had previously tried the beta and went back to FF4. Now I have these serious bugs and many extensions are disabled. Not at all happy. And now I hear about newer versions coming out quickly. That doesn't sound good to me. More bugs? More disabled extensions as developers can't keep up?

(*sigh*) I guess I'll have to wait out the storm in Opera or Chrome....  :(

Hello jtgd, and thank you for responding. I have now solved my problem and it seems to have been a JavaScript conflict. When I upgraded to FF5, most of my Add-ons migrated with it

One of the successful migrations was "privacychoice" and it was not until I checked the validity of each Add-on that I discovered that privacychoice had been the problem. It was not compatible and should NOT have been included in the upgrade

Once it was eliminated everything worked as it should: fingers crossed

Now, as to yr problem, I cannot suggest a fix, however, if you would like to return to a previous version of FF, they can all be found at: http://fileforum.betanews.com/browse/freeware/rated

Yrs sincerely, njb

This is one of the sites (the most recent one) causing my FF 5.0.1 to hang - even with all of the plug-ins disabled (safe mode).

When this happens on my computer I can't even close firefox in the task manager. I have to restart my computer in order to launch FF again.

This page is not a problem in IE, or if I'm using the IE engine in Firefox.

Hopefully someone out there can figure out what's on this page that causes this problem.

Thanks in advance.

I still can't load Gmail, Firefox seems to be the problem and looking through the posts I am not the only one who is seriously thinking about Chrome full time. This is such a shame, as i have raved about Firefox and am now quite embarrassed by the fact that I have recommended this to so many people and businesses. Who are now probably cursing me. I set them all up with Gmail accounts. I will be emailing everybody I can think of to apologize and recommend they use Chrome if they are having the same problems I am having
