There was a configuration somewhere and I do not remember but it implied using https for all connections. Now when I tag home which is not encrypted, the bar will have the address https://(with my address requested), instead of http:// and I will get a page saying the site is not trusted. Somewhere I put in the configuration of something *.* for https. Now a secure site is all that firefox will allow as trusted.

Do you have an extension that can force https ?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

My problem was in NoScript config. Thank you for your observation. I had forced https only on every site by selecting NoScript options and under the "Advanced" tab goto "HTTPS" tab. In that tab, the box that is titled "Force the following sites to use secure (HTTPS) connection:"

I had *.* in that box.

To get to NoScript options: Tag the NoScript button and select > options.
