My history gor deleted, but not cookies nor preferences?

more options

A few days ago, my history was normal but after opening Firefox in a new window, I discovered that the history was deleted, but the add-ons, preferences, cookies were still left in place.

  Can history be retrieved somehow?

Thanks for any help!

You can try to restore an older copy of the places.sqlite database file in the Time Machine if you use that application.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Note that you lose any bookmarks that were added since that version of places.sqlite was created, so you need to export the current bookmarks and restore them afterward.

Thanks for the quick reply, however I do not use Time Machine and have not activated it yet.

Are there any other ways I could retrieve history? It seems odd to have been deleted by itself while leaving everything else intact...

Once I accidentally deleted my Firefox shortcut (which on Mac turned out to be the original copy) but then reinstalled the program and located the older Firefox's files within my computer. I wonder whether history is also saved somewhere on the hard drive.

In the preferences, just like before my history vanished, there is a check next to "always remember history"
