I am on holiday in Greece, and Firefox seems to have decided everything I search for, the results should be in Greek instead of English. I have tried re-starting in Safe mode with everything disabled but that didn't work. Is this a Google issue, or a Firefox issue, anyone know? And if Google, how do I tell them I'm English?? It's hard to find a solution when everything appears in Greek. LOL!

Change Google's Search Settings by going to -> http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en

  • select Languages panel (on the left)
  • under "Which language should Google products use ?" select "English"
  • under "For Search Results" select "English"
  • unselect all other languages
  • click "Save" button

(For help, see the attached screenshot)

Check and tell if its working.

Thanks, but that didn't work. Clearly I have a cookie somewhere that's overriding something. I've disabled add-ons, I've changed the google.xml file, I've changed settings at Google ... guess I'll just have to learn Greek really fast! Stupid Google. LOL! Thanks for your help anyway. :-)

Problem is, I don't want to clear my cookies, I have valuable ones in there and it's a nuisance when I clear. Don't worry about it, I'll be back in the UK in a week. It's just odd that we aren't offered a choice when we move countries, LOL!

Thanks anyway!

Also double-check your language settings in Firefox.

Try going to www.google.gr and clicking the Google.com in English link in the lower right corner. If even that won't stick, you can bookmark that link and use it when you want to search.

If you prefer using the Firefox search bar, you can install a Google search plugin for another country.

If all else fails, you can search using StartPage, which provides results from Google.

You can Delete individual website's Cookies too. See this article -> Clear cookies and site data in Firefox

Also, in this article -> Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track use the settings "Remember History"

Check and tell if its working.
