How can Firefox Nightly (V. 22.0a1) Global Menu Bar be disabled in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (When it has been disabled in FireFox Stable (19.0) and Unity (5.18.0))

more options

I have tried various methods of removing the Global Menu Bar from both unity and Firefox before, but they seem to have no bearing on the Firefox Nightly version.

1. Nightly doesn't have the "Global Menu Bar Integration" addon by default. 2. "sudo apt-get remove firefox-globalmenu" does not effect Nightly. 3. trying "sudo apt-get install appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt" and then "sudo apt-get autoremove etc..." for unity doesn't effect Nightly. 4. Menu editor addons don't target this problem. 5. All searchable online help relates to re-inabling the global bar due to earlier Nightly version bugs. 6. It doesn't matter what graphics hardware is used, the results are still the same.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but on hi-res screens this is more than just annoying to always be running back up to the top bar.

Thanks for your time.

  • Try in safemode or reset your firefox and give a try..

I forgot to mention that I tried safemode.

I read online that some addons can pre-load very early and cause menu problems, but that type of safemode test/fix didn't work for me.

What do you mean by "reset your firefox"? Reinstall?

Notes: I installed Nightly 64-bit along-side the stable firefox. Stable was installed with the ubuntu install. Nightly was installed manually from the ppa by terminal after the Global Menu Integration was removed.

Thanks...

I tried doing some more testing on a clean machine by doing the following: (my notes I took during the process)

    1. on a win7 computer I used wubi.exe to install ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS 64-bit
    2. on first login I did this:
    3. sudo apt-get autoremove appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt
    4. removed global menu bar integration addon
    5. verified proper menu interaction with firefox and other programs
    6. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
    7. sudo apt-get update
    8. sudo apt-get install firefox-trunk
    9. sudo apt-get update
    10. note: no reboots yet
    11. navigated to "Dash Home" and launched "Nightly"
    12. took screen shots of both browsers (still had the problem)
    13. rebooted
    14. tested both stable and nightly and still had the problem.

Firefox Nightly version: 22.0a1 Firefox Stable version: 18.0.2

So even a fresh installed ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS has the same problem.

I hope this information helps... Thanks.
