Since the most recent update (32.0.1) clicks on links do not open new windows

more options

I'm not one for tabs, so I keep the "Open new windows in a new tab instead" option UN-checked, and inside of the last week. clicking on, say, a Google link, a new page gets opened (with a non-active "next page" button to the left of the location bar), but within the same window.

So the only way to get back to the base site is to click that "Go Back" button, which looses the opportunity to keep 2nd site open (don't like the the long-cut of opening a new window w/ Ctl+N then going back).

Any advice? Thanks!

When you click a link, the default is to open it in the current window / tab. Use the center mouse button on those links. Or, right click the link and choose from the menu.

Google has a setting for this on its search preferences page. Since this preference is stored in a cookie, it can get erased from time to time.
