I added an old JUNO.COM email account to my email accounts.

It took a while to download all 15,000 emails, but that is not my problem.

After it downloaded all the emails for this account, Thunderbird became unusable. It would freeze several seconds after I started it. I use Vista, so I pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL, and saw in the Task Manager that Thunderbird was not responding. So I Ended the Task.

Then I tried leaving it alone for a couple of hours. All this time the CPU Usage was nearly 100%, but Thunderbird never did become responsive.

After starting it and watching it freeze several times, I came to believe it froze when it was attempting to receive new emails from that Juno account. Fortunately the NAME of that account fell, alphabetically, at the every bottom of my account list. So each time I started Thunderbird I had a few (very few) seconds, as Thunderbird downloaded my other accounts, before it froze.

After multiple attempts I was able to adjust the Server Settings so as not to download emails for this account upon Starting. Then I was able to Remove the Juno.com Account, and Thunderbird returned to normal, with no freezing.

Is there anything I can do so that Thunderbird will handle the Juno.com account and not freeze ?

Yes, removing the Juno.com email account eliminated all freezing. Thunderbird is working well again.

Odd. Perhaps there is a bad message. It's an imap account?

Were you able to determine WHY the juno account is causing aproblem?

Honestly, the problem was so serious, I just went Cold-Turkey on my Juno Account.

I don't dare to try adding my JUNO account to Thunderbird.

If someone else is successful in adding their JUNO account to Thunderbird, maybe I'll try again.

lets just try that again. With a specially created profile so that the issue is not difficult to leave behind if it is problematical.

First install this add-on to make profile switching convenient. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/profileswitcher/?src=search

Now from the File menu select open profile manager > normal mode. in the profile manager create a new profile. Now install the add-on again to switch profiles. Add your Juno account. and see what happens.

If it all goes pear shaped. you can modify the Thunderbird shortcut on your desktop to add -offline after the target in the shortcut to force Thunderbird to no go online to get mail when it starts.
