Firefox 41.0.1 does not create places.sqlite and hangs regularly

Firefoz 41.0.1 hangs pretty regularly. Doesn't seem to be related to resources, as CPU usage is moderate. Bookmarks and History are fine, but when I deleted/moved the places.sqlite file and then restarted firefox, no replacement places.sqlite was created. Strangely, firefox appears to work perfectly normally (aside from the hanging) without a places.sqlite, or indeed any files in the profile folder!

Firefox should immediately create a new places.sqlite in the profile folder when you start Firefox. Make sure that you look in the correct location in \AppData\Roaming\.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

It wasn't doing that, but I've just copied and created a new profile in a new custom location and it all seems to be working fine now, thanks. Still don't know what was preventing firefox from modifying the standard folder.
