Moving a group of emails from inbox to local folders causes empty emails
Hi,
If I select several emails from an inbox and move it (using menu or also using drag&drop), often the resulting messages in the target folder are empty, loosing all the content:
excherp from the (non .msf) file:

googled for it but no solution found... also many (old?) bugreport in bugtracker
is there a way to recover lost contents or at least a solution to avoid this continues to happen?
thank you in advance for nay advice Joachim

Are you talking about an IMAP mail account ?
If yes, then you may only have downloaded headers and so are only moving headers. Imap mail account see a remote view of the server which stores the emails. Usually, only headers are downloaded and when you select email to read, it is downloaded to a temp store cache to faciltate viewing. It is not stored in thunderbird, it is stored on server.
Make sure the imap folders are synchronised for offline use to get a copy of the emails into Thunderbird profile name folder. Then in offline mode, you should be able to read emails and this temporarilly stops further synchronizing. In offline mode, right click on highlighted email and use 'Copy to' a folder in 'Local Folders' mail account.
The copy in 'Local Folders' mail account will now be stored on your computer and so it is up to you to make sure you have backups.
Then when certain all emails have copied correctly, delete copy in imap mail account and go back to online mode. Imap fodlers will synch with server to update server.
Helpful info on performaing the above comment.
How to synchronise your folders:
Set up offline settings: 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Network & Disc Space' tab or 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Network & Disc Space' tab click on 'Offline..' button see image below as guide.
To go into offline mode
- File > Offline > Work Offline
Offline/online Quick method: How to go into 'offline' mode:
- click on the two blue screen icon located far left in bottom Status bar
How to go into 'online' mode:
- click on the two black screen icon located far left in bottom Status bar

thak you for your quick response.. I have several accounts in Thunderbird, I'm using it since many years
I don't use downaloding only headers and in this case it was an IMAP account... It happened often also in the past... moving email to local folders empties them

So are you saying that you have already set up to use in Offline mode? Can you read emails in imap folders in offline mode ?
