I have two account. The one loads mail normally,but the other, which is my main personal account, says it is downloading the certain number of messages but then this note dissapears and no mail arrives. I can sned from this account to the other successfully.

I see that you have two accounts with the same provider but am wondering why they are set up quite differently. Under the hood, bt.com email is run by yahoo, and so I'd expect the SSL settings to work.

BTW, you don't need the Extra Folder Columns add-on; this function is now built into Thunderbird.

Agreed. Change the Account Settings for the e-mail accounts.

Thunderbird menu: Tools: Account Settings: For incoming e-mail: Select "Server Settings" on the left side under your e-mail account, and the settings are on the right side. For outgoing e-mail: Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" on the left side, then select the server you want on the right side. Click the "Edit" button to change the settings.

Also, you should really update Thunderbird to the latest version. You have a very old version! Download & install Thunderbird
