I would like to sort my emails by SUBJECT, but it groups all the FORWARDS and RESPONSES as separate SUBJECT Names as opposed to the actual SUBJECT. Can we indeed sort by SUBJECT without separately grouping The Forwards and Responses within a SUBJECT?

Look at the options under View|Sort By

You may need Unthreaded to get all the messages in purely chronological order.

Threaded will group messages by their logical connection.

Another interesting option is Grouped By Sort, so if you sort by From: or Correspondents: and then select this option, you will get all the correspondences with a particular person grouped together.

Most simple sorting and re-sorting an be done by clicking the buttons at the heads of the columns. One of the columns deals with threading, so it is possible to switch it off and on in the message list without having to go back into the menu. But you may find that to re-sort one particular column, you may need to sort on another column and then return to the required column.

Note that if you sort again by clicking on the currently sorted column it will re-sort in reverse order, so if it's sorted by date, you can switch between oldest first and latest first.
