Firefox insists my flash player is out of date, reports version 25.0.0.148. I DO NOT HAVE that version, I have 25.0.0.171. only.

I've examined every libflashplayer.so on the drive (there is only the one) and it is 25.0.0.171:

strings /usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so | grep FlashPlayer_25_0_0

FlashPlayer_25_0_0_171_FlashPlayer

yum list installed | grep -i flash-plugin

flash-plugin.x86_64 25.0.0.171-release @adobe-linux-x86_64

how do I make Firefox stop reporting this bogus complaint?

The best thing to do is remove all flash from your system. Then re-install a fresh copy from;

Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe also delete addons.sqlite to reset the plugin registry database.
