Hello

Before some time I used to search on your URL and was directed on to google search results. But for the past 1 month, I am redirected to yahoo. I really hate yahoo and just wanted google to be my search partner. I studied your procedures also but none of them are actually working for me. I have tried every possible way from my end.

When I make a search, first of all, it shows Google in the URL but after seconds it changes and the search results are actually given by Yahoo. Please help me with it ourelse I have to switch browser and I really dont want to it.

Terminology: Browser = internet browser like Safari, Firefox or Chrome. Search engine: Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo.

Also, it's not too difficult to change the default search provider. Go to the 3 bar menu, Options, General / Search and change from there.

Another issue, although unrelated to your question, is your Flash player being terribly outdated. If you do continue to use Flash, be sure to keep it up to date.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

The System Details list next to the question shows that you run an older Firefox 53 version that is no longer supported with security updates.

Please update to the current Firefox 55.0.3 release.

Hi   !

Cor-el already suggested that you'd like for unfamilar or suspicious extensions.

It sounds to me like you're dealing with search.yahoo.com which is a browser hijacker, and to get rid of it you'll need to do a little bit more :

Go to the 3-bar menu => Addons => Extensions and look for any unfamiliar or suspicious looking extensions, like e.g.:

SafeSearch Incognito SearchAssist Incognito

When you find any :   remove them.

Also look in : 3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Options => Advanced => Network tab => Under : 'Offline Web Content and User Data'

Do the same in Windows' Control Panel => Programs.

However :   most malware will be 'hiding' somewhere , so let's run malware scans :

Further information can be found in this article :
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners.
They all work differently   -   what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.
