Add a default extension to downloaded files that have none?

When downloading .pdf files there are times when the extension is not present. I understand that this is attributed to bad practices on the part of certain websites. My thought would be to create a rule within the settings of Firefox that would add a default extension in the case of a downloaded file which is missing the extension. Would this be possible, if so can someone provide the rule that would need to be added to the settings?

Not a good idea. How would you know it is a PDF and not a Executable as for sites not including .pdf i highly do not think so. It is possibly something in Firefox.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (This program should be pinned to Start, If not run below ever, expect to delete 100's of gig's). Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.2 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
