We use Re@dNotify to track receipt/opening of all emails so the Return Receipt function in Thunderbird is redundant, and potentially an additional annoyance to our email recipients.

Despite the "When sending messages, always request a return receipt" box (via Options) NOT being ticked all of our emails have included return receipt requests (only since Firefox's/Thunderbird's latest update).

You can set return receipts per account or globally in Thunderbird.

Per account Account Settings-Return Receipt

Globally Options-Advanced-Return Receipts

All three of my email accounts are set to use Global setting, which is UNTICKED for sending of Return Receipts. Seems like the system is broken?

Then Thunderbird is not sending them. What makes you think Thunderbird is still doing it instead of the 3rd party software you are running.

Firefox is an Internet browser and it's updates have nothing to do with Thunderbird.

@Airmail Makes sense so have dug a little deeper. Looks like only the email linked to our website is doing this so would seem to rule out TB or ReadNotify being to blame.

Now following up with webmaster and hosting ISP.

Thanks for your advice :-)

If you do not find it we can look in the Thunderbird config editor to make sure the check boxes actually changed the option.
