https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1002905 is out of date and no longer works for finding the folder in which a bookmark is located.

It says: none of the above search methods will show you in which folder a bookmark resides. You can remedy that with the following add-ons.

   https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/show-parent-folder/
   https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/go-parent-folder/
   https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sidebar-bookmarks-search-plus/

None of these addons is available any more.

Back to the beginning. How does one find the folder in which one has put a bookmark, in order that one can look at a group of similar bookmarks located under the same folder?

Basically you do not, you organize you bookmarks by dragging them around and creating Folders and separators , you are the librarian of your bookmarks. You can use bookmarks Extensions that maybe of use : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

My question was not about backing up bookmarks.

You are correct that "you organize your bookmarks by dragging them around and creating Folders and separators, you are the librarian of your bookmarks." So if one has hundreds of bookmarks in various folders, how does one search for the bookmark one wants?

It is possible to file material in more than one location. For example, I will create a folder for working on certain files; when finished I will drag it to a more permanent library location. Some weeks or months later I may wish to begin working on a similar topic and I wish to search my own library of bookmarks for relevant entries. How can I do so?

Before experimenting with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/ ... Will these work with https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/ ? Thanks.

This link simply confirms that others are frustrated with the inability to search one's bookmarks.

It confirms that "you can't find items in collapsed folders" - the very thing that many of want to do, and do easily.
