My bookmarks have all disappeared and it says one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. I have followed the troubleshooting steps and deleted the places. I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. I have tried to restore from backup, both the automatic history and a saved json file and it says it can't process either backup file. What do I do to get my bookmarks back??

Hi shanner:

It would be super helpful and enable us to fix your problem if you could please:

  1. let us know what exactly the steps you followed (e.g. when you write " I have followed the troubleshooting steps and deleted the places.") are in as much detail as possible
  2. copy and paste the output of the special URL:

about:support as a reply in this thread.

Cheers!

What security software do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
