It is not unusual for me to lose my favorites on BOTH, the Firefox homepage and on the "SpeedDial 2" app. I keep having to reenter my favorites, only for it to happen again, not long after.

As an aside, it is very difficult to find some way to contact Mozilla. You list Facebook as a way to contact you, but that is no longer being used. There seems to be no way to, easily, get in contact with Mozilla. It is as if Mozilla wants to make it as difficult as possible for people to bring their concerns to them.

I am considering going with a nother browser. I have heard that Brave is a good one.

If this is about pages that you have pinned to a tab then this is a problem with the preferences.

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites you have pinned to a tile
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites you have removed by clicking the Dismiss (X) button in a tile

This shouldn't happen and if it happens often in your case then you likely have some cleanup or security software that messes with files in the profile folder.

The pinning and dismissing I already do.

I do not know what to look for when searching for "some cleanup or security software that messes with files in the profile folder."

The point is that you do not keep pinned tabs, so for some reason these prefs get modified or reset. Security software can to this if they notice that a pref contains a reference to a suspicious website. Firefox would never do this.

Well it happened again.

You wrote: "The point is that you do not keep pinned tabs," Then what is the point of 'pinning' the sites you want to keep? It seems like the browser wants to show me my the web sites I recently visited. I do not want that. I want those that are my preferences not Mozilla's.

You wrote: "Security software can to this if they notice that a pref contains a reference to a suspicious website."

The sites I want to keep are not what you would call 'suspicious' sites. They include banking, bible reference, fanfiction, and news sites. Even if there were such "suspicious" sites, why would they affect the non-suspicious sites? Mozilla offer this nice neat service, but, seems to insist one must use it the way Mozilla wants one to use it, not how one wants to use it.

I found the prefs.js file and a prefs.js-1 file, but can't tell if they are write protected or what. I can't even open them. Do not know what to do now that I found them.

Mozilla is not easy to contact or get a response from.

I am going to look into the browser Brave.

Hello AJSmithjr,

Apologies for butting in (before you give up on Firefox), but I'm afraid that you misconstrued cor-el's post .....

Cor-el is not saying that you should not keep pinned tabs, but merely pointing out that that is what's happening here and that some security software might be doing this. Firefox is not responsible for what some security software does .... Maybe you'd like to read cor-el's post again ?

Do you have security software (like Avast, AVG, McAfee) and/or cleanup software (like CCleaner)  ?

I just remembered you mentioning "SPeedDial 2" - does that mean that you have this extension installed ?

If so : would you disable it and see if the problem disappears ?
