Under Logins and Passwords there is an import tab - how do I export my logins and passwords?

I am setting up a new desktop with WIN10 and want to import all of my Logins and Passwords from my Laptop (WIN7). There is an Import tab on my desktop Firefox but no Export on my laptop Firefox. How do I do this? I am not a computer wizard and don't know too much about them.

Firefox doesn't have a way to export the passwords.

You can backup logins.json and key4.db in the profile folder. If you have a Firefox account and use Sync then you can use Firefox Lockwise.

You can use files like these with Firefox closed in the current profile folder to backup and restore specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db
  • cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

I answered NO because I don't know if it helped or not. As I said in my original post, I am not by any means an expert. OK - I found the two files on my laptop (WIN7) do I just copy them to a flash drive then find them on my desktop (WIN10) and replace those with the ones on the flash drive?

You need to copy the logins.json and key4.db files to the Firefox profile folder.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

its not that there is no way... firefox intentionally wants to force you to use their nonsensical lockwise sync products as they desperately look to mimic chrome... so you would be forced to give THEM all your personal information like passwords.

this is FORCED onto us...there was an addon that previously did this but its now not an option for the latest firefox...wish i had known before updating

So, it's better to give all of your personal information to some fly-by-night add-on ??

Good luck with that.
