I have decided I want to save a user name and password for a website that I had previously said not to save. How can I save it now? I don't see a way in the "save logins manager" window to add it, and I can't get the drop-down window to appear again asking if I want to save user & password.

Could you check whether the site is on (and can be removed from) the Exceptions list? Here's how:

  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type log and Firefox should filter to the "Logins and Passwords" section.

The top button here should be "Exceptions". Go ahead and click that. Can you find the site on that list and remove it?

Note: There's a Save Changes button at the bottom right. If it's not visible, use the "grippy" in the lower right corner to expand the overlaid dialog. If you can't get it big enough, cancel the dialog (Esc), reduce the zoom level a tick (Command+minus) and try again.

Thanks for the suggestion; I didn't know that exceptions button worked that way. I did as you recommended, but it still lets me login without asking if I want to save the password. Any other thoughts? I quit and re-started Firefox, but I didn't reboot the computer yet.

Hmm, that's the only block list I'm aware of.

I wonder if the site changed in some way that makes it difficult for Firefox to detect the form?

Thanks for your help. I think I had it ask in a different browser recently. I'll check Firefox once more after I've rebooted. Appreciate your quick replies. I know it's not always possible, but nice when it is.

Follow up: It worked! I shut down Firefox again and restarted it. Thanks so much jscher2000.
