Working on a Mac running OS 10.13.6, I refreshed firefox and now all the backgrounds are black and the text white, even though in preferences I have it set to black text and white background. If I change it to override always, I get black on white, but the rest of the page displays wrong, with strange colors, like the sample below.

Hi faywouk, I'm not certain if it's relevant but, your System Details show that you have two different versions of Shockwave Flash installed.

what is shockwave flash and how would i find it and uninstall one of them?

more options

Shockwave flash is also known as Flash Player or Adobe Flash.

Go to Menu -> Add-ons Look in both Extensions and Plugins

If it isn't there, you may need to Uninstall it from your OS. See this article from Adobe: Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html

I can disable both of them at once, or enable both, but can't seem to disable just one. I was able to uninstall the newer version, but not the older version. With the newer version deleted and the older version disabled, the display problem is unchanged. So I guess it was irrelevant.

OK. Back to your problem.

One of the things that I've seen is a simple and often overlooked selection in your preferences, so, I have to ask - Do you have *Use system colors selected?

more options

I did not, but I do now. It didn't fix the problem.

more options

When you get a chance, de-select *Use system colors.

Are you using a Theme? If so, have you tried disabling it or using another Theme?

Is this only happening on one site? If so, it might be a site issue.

more options

I have tried deselecting it. no change. The theme is set to default. I saw that I also had hte option of light and dark so I tried each of those. No change. The problem happens on every site.
