When I open Firefox 75 or a new page or a link I get a Malwarebytes popup telling me website blocked due to a trojan. (see picture) However I am not trying to connect to that page it's telling me about. What I am confused with is I think it means FF is trying to connect to it but I don't know where the request is coming from. I have done in-depth scans with Malwarebytes, ESET and TDSKiller and have found nothing.

I think this stared after the last update.

Well CRAP...... I just installed that you tube add on in my laptop and a few others and all was well. I turned the laptop off for lunch and turned it back on and sure enough it turned out to be the YouTube down-loader. For pet's sakes....

So, the addon: YouTube Downloader by App Creator is bad.

Thanks guys.

I enjoyed problem solving when I was younger, not so much anymore. lol

hi, i would start by uninstalling these following addons as they look suspicious and be careful about what to install in the future:

  • DuckDuckGo Maps 1.1 (ddgm@de.de)
  • Google Maps Quick Search 2.0.2 ({508ae1fb-43ac-a596-45ad-fd5eab7dea9a})
  • YouTube Downloader 1.2 ({9643ee9d-e783-40ee-9dd5-fb7219e82ea9})

you can probably remove "AdBlock — best ad blocker 4.10.0" since using more than one list-based adblocker at a time can often lead to problems.

Disable or remove Add-ons

Hi, What do you mean by "they look suspicious"? What do you see that makes them look that way to you? Question: You said "be careful about what to install in the future" Are you saying that these addons you listed have known problems or have problems you know of? If so, they should be removed from the addon list.

Those addons have been installed for a while and have never given me any problems. Everything has been working well for a very long time so I don't see removing them will stop this popup. I did disable all the addons and it did not stop this popup. Also, I have not installed anything on the PC in over a few months except for Win10 updates and the FF update.

sorry, i was just basing that by googling the addons' ids which brought up no results which is often a red flag - YouTube Downloader 1.2 seems to have gotten some negative reviews in the addons store recently though

When you start Firefox, is it displaying the built-in home page?

When you say opening a new page, do you mean opening a new tab displaying the built-in new tab page (Ctrl+t), or a new window showing the built-in home page (Ctrl+n)?

Assuming so: does it make any difference if you switch your home page and new tab page to a blank page? You can set that on the Options page, Home panel.

That wouldn't necessarily account for a problem with a link, though.
