I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF, refreshed it, etc, but it consistently test at 400mbps to 600mbps even though I have gig speed. On the native Ookla app for win10, I see the 960mbps. Same in Edge and Chrome. But FF is always slow. I have tried other sites as well.

Is FF simply slower than everyone else, or is there a setting I need to adjust? Please help, or should I just switch to another browser?

Thanks

Anyone? Is this how you contact FF?

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.

Do you use a VPN or proxy in Firefox that could affect the download speed ?

Hi, so I have already done all of these things which I already noted...uninstalled and re-installed FF, choosing the 64bit version. That created a whole new profile. I have now done that 4 times. No difference.

I do have a VPN but I have shut it off for the tests, even gone so far as to uninstall them completely while I test. Edge, the native app both always come in at the 960. Had a tech here, he did his own test, saw the 960 too. I have done the restart in safe mode as well and yes it still is the same, always b/t 400 and 600mbps.

I have also looked at my resource monitors for Network and seen that when FF is open, it has about 15 to 20 different processes accessing the web, even with just one tab open. I have also noticed that when FF is open and I run the tests in Edge, the speed drops to around the same 600mbps. I close FF and the speeds return.

It is looking more and more like FF has just become too heavy/clunky and it is time to go over to Edge. Which kinda sucks because I have all my logins stored with FF and will have to start all over. Really do not want to switch but there seems to be no solution. I have seen this issue over and over on this community and on Reddit, Win 10 forums, etc. Always on those threads they are told to try a new profile, reset, etc...only to end up with same exact issues. Was hoping I might find a different solution.

Did you try Windows Safe Mode with network support ?

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
