Change to about:config cache directory not saved

I moved my Firefox installation to a new machine. After creating a new profile and moving all my old files Firefox has opened with all of my old info and is operating properly.

But when I tried to change the location of the cache file to the correct drive on my new machine the about:config file does not save the new entry. When Firefox is closed and re-opened the new entry has been reset to the old location.

I've tried deleting the browser.cache.disk.parent_directory entry in about:config but when the program is re-opened the entry returns with the old directory shown.

Any advise would be appreciated.

As you are aware, it should be possible to remove that entry; I have recently done so. There is an article listing possible causes and solutions. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save

Thank you TNorth.

I had forgotten about an entry I made a long time ago in the User.js file which designated the location for the Firefox cache.
