ws03: downloads are canceled
Hi All,
I have a Windows Server 2003, sp2 to maintain. I have FF 3.6.3 installed on it.
Problem: when I download something, after I hit save file, my download is immediately canceled.
Then, in the download manager, if I hit retry, the entire file will then download and erase itself when it hits 100%.
I have tried reinstalling Firefox. No joy.
Anyone know how to stop this? I really need to use the download feature. (Wget will only work on so many things.)
Many thanks, -T

I have the same issue on XP with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
I have the exact same problem. Perhaps it is a virus?
It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox. You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work. Do not forget to re-enable the scanning in your anti-virus software after you are finished with downloading and installing. .......... See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files (Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows)
Hi Cor-el,
There is not and has never been an Anti Virus on the Windows Server 2003 in question. Thank you for the suggestion anyway.
By the way, wget works fine.

Todd / Cor-el - same here - this server never has had any Anti-Virus installed on it either, and we have the exact same problem - IE and Chrome both download without issue.
I never thought to do the "Retry" - but - it behaves just as you said it would - it downloads (slowly, if I may add)...and immediately deletes the file upon completion.
PLEASE let me know what this is...I've checked all security settings, and there doesn't appear to be anything that would stop me from downloading successfully...thanks!!!
It appears that if you are on an older version of FireFox this happens. When I ran the program on a server where I do not use a browser much, I was told this was a very old version of FF ( a year maybe).
The indignity of it all was I needed to open IE to download the current FireFox version and then all was good. So, in this case, IE saved FF --shudder--
I hope that is the proper incentive incentive to look at this issue :)

Tom
I had the same problem, the difference in my case is that IE was also not able to download files. My OS is Vista Home Premium. I recently hardened IE’s Security settings which made it less functional, didn’t care since I don’t use IE at all! But did not expect its settings will reflect on other browsers.
IE security setting seems to change windows security which reflects on how other browsers work (don’t know what exactly happened but that seemed to be the case). The change I made to IE that caused the problem was to set security level to all Zones to High.
Here is how I fixed the issue:
• Open Internet Explorer browser • Go to Tools menu • Select Internet Options • Go to Security tab • Select Internet zone • Click on "Custom level..." • Under Downloads category, enable the option "File download" • Under Miscellaneous category, select Prompt (recommended) for the option "Launching applications and unsafe files" • Under Miscellaneous category, select Prompt (recommended) for the option "Launching programs and files in an IFRAME" • Validate the changes by clicking on OK • Leave the Internet Options • Close the browser • Re-opened IE and it worked fine. • Opened Firefox and it worked fine as well.
