I am on a page (below) which asks me to download plugin. When I do the Quicktime download page is started, but it is already installed. When I download and repair Quicktime, and return to the page, Quicktime is still not found. When I go through the Firefox plugin service, the message is "no plugins installed, Apple Quicktime Not available Manual install" which takes me to the Apple download page. When I try to download from here, Firefox keeps coming up with an error message, "To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier." no matter what Apple page is shown. I then downloaded with Opera and installed Quicktime. Quicktime is listed in Firefox's list of plugins, but it is still not found when called by the page.

That is a TIFF file and QuickTime can't display such a file in Firefox.

You can look at AlternaTIFF - http://www.alternatiff.com/

Thank you. The solution and plugin works perfectly. You answered a question I did not know I did not know was there. It would be very helpful if you could walk me through how you solved this problem.

A couple of questions remain. How did Firefox: 1. determine that Quicktime was needed, when it was not? 2. forget that quicktime was already installed as a plugin?

You're welcome

I looked at the page source code to see what kind of file the plugin wanted to display and noticed the .tiff file extension. It is a known problem that QuickTime can't handle such a file. QuickTime unfortunately reports that it supports TIFF files (there is a check box in the QT Preferences), but that doesn't work. In the past the same could happen with .SWF (Flash) files that QT tried to handle and that caused a 'Q?' to appear. It is possible that it works on a Mac with TIFF, but it doesn't work on Windows.

Thank you again. In ignorance, it is always difficult to know where the fault lies. Blaming the tools is often the first reaction, but not always wrong.
