In the newest version of Firefox, History seems to be retained forever. In the previous version I was able to set the max # of days to retain browsing history from within "about:config" to a definite number. In checking that setting again, the number has remained unchanged but Firefox seems to retain browsing history continuously. Is there another way to limit the amount of days Browsing History is retained?

History will still be expired, but the amount of history to save is based on the amount of space and memory in your computer. You can also customize the amount of history to store by creating a "places.history.expiration.max_pages" preference in about:config. For details, see:

Well, I have just reverted to IE8 as my default browser precisely because I can no longer set a specific number of days for history retention.

This was a VERY important function for me, as I am a member of a forum that displays messages in the form of header lines, and I could very quickly identify which messages I had read in the past certain number of days. Now that's gone.

Actually, I had become less and less fond of Firefox as I noticed that certain Web sites were not displaying properly compared to IE8, and this was causing problems for me when it was not obvious there was a problem just by looking at the page as displayed on Firefox.
