Skype 5.3 and Firefox 4.0.1 conflict?

more options

This problem first occurred the night before last, went away spontaneously and returned today.

When Firefox is open without Skype being opened, I can connect to any internet site I choose.

If Skype is opened, I can only connect to a couple of local Australian sites and no other internet sites.

To remedy, I have to log out of Skype and Firefox, reboot and reboot the wireless modem/router.

This problem occurs on both desktops and the laptop. If even one of the computers has both Skype and Firefox (or one has Skype and another Firefox) open, the problem affects all the computers.

There is obviously some conflict between them and their access to the web somehow.

I run AVG Internet Security 2011 and the only recent additions to the computers have been Windows updates.

HELP!!!! I use Skype as my telephone service via VOIP so I am pretty stumped without it and it is getting very boring to have to keep rebooting EVERYTHING to get the internet back.

Skype works any time it is loaded.

Thanks.

See if you have a Skype extension in Firefox. If so disable that extension and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks for your reply.

No, I do not have a Skype extension in Firefox.

The same thing happened to me. I don't know if there is a connection between Skype and Firefox that is responsible for Skype crashing, but I managed to solve the problem by manually deleting Skype folder in C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming. Of course I lost all my Skype settings, contact aliases, groups etc.

I hope this helps.

Edit: I found that only shared.xml has to be deleted!
