want to install Firefox 5.0 but get message that it will not work with with Norton Toolbar 5.6, have all latest downloads from Norton and it still will not work.
see above. My Norton is up to date, but when I start to install Firefox 5.0 get message that Norton toolbar 5.6 is not compatible. Norton says if it still won't work to uninstall and reinstall Norton. That's a lot to ask and it still might not be compatible. Any suggestions from Firefox?

Forget about either Norton or Firefox - seriously - decide which is most important to you and ditch the other. The future is littered with massive compatibility issues, that need someone to "give in" a lot to solve this recurring situation.
Over the past couple of years Norton has taken like 2 months after Mozilla has released a new version of Firefox to fix their Firefox extension compatibility for the new version. That happened with both Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4.0; now 5.0 is here and the Norton extensions aren't compatible once again. IMO, Norton just can't handle Mozilla's new Rapid Release schedule for Firefox and something's gotta give. It was 3 months from 4.0 to 5.0, but the 6, 7 & 8 versions of Firefox will be released at 6 week intervals
Unless Norton cleans up its' act considerably, their Firefox user's aren't ever going to have compatible Firefox extensions. Taking two months to fix their stuff for a program that is updated every 6 weeks just doesn't equate.
Norton has actually tried to get a update patch out for Firefox 5.0 back on Tuesday (versus taking some six weeks) when Firefox 5.0 was released. However I think some say the toolbar may not work if patch was installed before Firefox 5.0 and not after.
Thanks for the quick replies. My liveupdate is automatic and the patch must already be on my system before the Firefox 5.0 installation, which may explain the second reply to my questions. As for choosing, I got message that Firefox 4.06 was not compatible with Microsoft Net Framework Assistant 1.2.1. And before any corrections were made Firefox jumped to 5.0, so I did not install Firefox 4.06. Still using Firefox 3.6.18. Maybe Firefox is now changing so fast that is hard for other applications to keep up with it. Norton protects my system and until now Firefox was great. have been using it for years. Maybe it is now time to take a look at Chrome and see if it presents the same problems with Norton Also, Norton presented no problems with Firefox 3.6 on my system. Norton toolbar 5.6 is active and works fine with 3.6.
