Can Search Be Automatically Made On New Tab?

When performing a web search, by having entered some text in the search bar, is it possible to set Firefox so the same search is automatically conducted on new tabs that are opened.

Currently, when I wish to view/ research multiple results for the same search parameter and I open multiple tabs to do that, I then have to click on the magnifying glass in the search box for each tab individually.

What I want is that as long as I have some search parameter in the search box, for the search to be conducted automatically and immediately on any tab opened.

When you Open a New Tab, the cursor is in the Location (address) bar. You can perform your searches through there as well. See this:

Location bar search

Check and tell if its working.

You can set the pref browser.search.openintab to true on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

hi mha, I already have the search parameters typed into the search parameter window. I don't want to have to retype it into the address bar.

Hi cor-el,

I tried your suggestion. What that did was open a new tab when I requested the return of a new search parameter.

That is not the scenario I am wanting to address. What I want to address is as follows:

I want to research some topic, so I conduct a search. I get the search results. I will click on one of those results and go to that page. But, I want to research this subject more thoroughly than any one page will allow. I want to see more results for the same search parameters (and then go to those pages.) Therefore, I will open multiple tabs and conduct the same search under each tab.

As it stands now, every time I open a new tab, I have to click on the search parameter window to cause the search to be conducted.

I would like to eliminate that last step. Once I have entered the search parameter in the search window, I want every tab I open to immediately conduct that search without me having to make further input (click on it again.)

Why don't you open the tab by left-clicking (with the pref set) or middle-clicking the Go button on the search bar instead of using other ways to open a tab if you want to perform a search?
