Firefox 8 has a feature "Recently Closed Windows" and "Recently Closed Tabs". These do not clear when my Firefox is closed and reopened. I want to disable this feature, or at least have them cleared when the browser is closed. How do I do this? Thanks.

That data is stored as part of session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Recently closed windows is the most problematic.

You can (temporarily) set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo to 0 to clear the "Recently Closed Tabs" list.

If you want to re-use the "Recently Closed Tabs" feature (Undo Closed Tabs) then you can reset the pref browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo to the default value via the right-click context menu.

Close all tab in a window before closing that window to prevent the window from appearing in the recently closed windows list.
Set the pref browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing that window, you need to use "File > Close Window" or the close X on the title bar.
