Normally all bookmarks would be expected to have an icon rather than a blank dotted square.

Sometimes apparently this problem may be caused by either

  • software extension problems
  • or (iirc) icons not being in the expected location

This reminded me of an earlier thread someone posted, I will try to look back and find it. Personally I suspect there is a regression (fault) in a recent update of firefox (maybe a few versions back) that causes some of these problems.

If you see problems in safe mode using the default theme and with all plugins disabled please post back with details and attach a screenshot maybe someone could then look into the problem.

Not currently, an add-on is needed to be able to add your own Favicon for a bookmark. The extension that people have been using for the last few years hasn't worked correctly since Firefox 7.0. I just tried the Development Version 0.8.0.15a of that extension with Firefox 10.0 to see if it would work, and it doesn't allow the Add-ons Manager tab to appear so I couldn't even get as far as testing to see if it still works. Also see the latest Reviews of this extension for other problems that users have reported recently.

You might want to drop the developer an email to find out if he plans to release a fix - to the right of About this Add-on on that page there is a Support E-mail link.
