I have a new laptop and am leaving on an extended trip out of the country to do volunteer work. It is urgent that I have my original profile with favorites added to the new computer. I have tried your instructions and was not sucessful.

If you read Recovering important data from an old profile, yo can see what files you will need to back up. All you have to do is on your old computer, locate your profile (usually in C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME HERE\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla), and copy and paste that profile (you can copy individual files, or the whole folder) to your new computer and put it in the same place.
