Why won't Firefox 14 open a link in an email in an open, sandboxed Firefox browser?

I was using Firefox 13, and also Sandboxie. I kept a sandboxed Firefox browser open all of the time. If I clicked in a link in an email, the link would be opened in the open, sandboxed Firefox browser. I updated to Firefox 14. I no longer could click on a link in an email and have the web page open in the sandboxed Firefox browser. Instead, it ignored the sandboxed browser and opened a normal browser. This defeats the purpose of the easy security measure I was using. Is there any way to make a clicked link in an email open in a sandboxed Firefox 14 browser, rather than ignoring it and opening the link in a normal, not-sandboxed Firefox browser? In the meantime, I uninstalled Firefox 14 and reinstalled Firefox 13, and I can once again open a link in an email directly into an open, sandboxed Firefox browser, v. 13.

Are you running a regular Firefox version in Sandboxie or a Firefox portable version?

Hi,

One more thing you could try is to completely delete the previous configuration in Sandboxie and create a fresh configuration for Firefox.

Hi! I am running a regular version of Firefox. Since I have no portable devices, I have no use for the portable version.

Thanks! I'll try that, and try Firefox 14 again.

Is that sandboxed Firefox opened with a -no-remote command line switch?

more options

No, Cor-el, I don't use command-line switches. I just open Firefox by clicking on its desktop shortcut icon. I have accepted numerous Firefox updates, and this is the first time this ever has happened. Always before, I just went about my usual business of opening the updated browser in its sandbox, and everything worked fine. A mystery. But mysteries have answers!

I tried that, Dumdidadida. I erased the Sandboxie configuration and started over again from scratch. Then I once again installed Firefox 14. Same thing as before. It opens a clicked link in an email in a new, normal browser rather than opening it in an open sandboxed Firefox. Actually, I reinstalled Firefox 14 before making the new Sandboxie configuration. So I have given up, uninstalled Firefox 14, and reinstalled Firefox 13. That makes it work the way I want it to. I'll just go with that.

Another possibility could be that Sandboxie is not supervising all Firefox instances. Please also see this. (There could also be other settings) The Sandboxie forum could also be helpful.

Thanks for the tip, dumdidadida. But I never have more than one instance of Firefox open at a time. This morning, automatic updates updated me again to Firefox 14, and I tested it, and I have the same problem as before. So I disabled my internet connection, uninstalled Firefox 14, and reinstalled Firefox 13 from a saved setup. Again, it worked like a charm. So I changed the Firefox settings to disable automatic updates. Since I work almost exclusively in the sandboxed Firefox, I am not that concerned about security. Thanks for everything!
