Sometime back, after upgrading FF versions, some websites didn't properly display. Best way I can describe it is parts of the screen overlayed other parts. Only a few sites. But it made those sites unusable.

IE & Chrome didn't have the problem. Waterfox acts exactly the same as FF.

But Portable Firefox works fine. v18.0.1 I suspect knowing that fact is the key to solving my problem.

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" in case the current setting is causing problems.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)

Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.

No, this has been a problem for a long time, and although I thank you for the suggestions (and tried them), the solution will only come from somebody who understands why Portable works and regular FF doesn't.

Can you attach a screenshot and also post a link to a few pages with this issue?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Note that the portable Firefox version has its own profile folder.

You can try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Here are some small jpegs showing the problem. The first two are at a password protected site, but the next two are at http://www.cnbc.com/id/17689937.

I note again that all browsers except FF have no problems with any sites. And I didn't do the 'Transferring data to a new profile - Firefox' thing. Would using the profile of Portable be a good idea? My FF profile is about 20 years old.
