I can have multiple tabs before I close Firefox. I will go and reopen it and it will open my previous tabs. I have gone into options and it is set to open with my homepage (in this case, hotmail) not restore the previous tabs. What is going on?

To fix this issue we will need to stop Firefox from restoring your session after a crash.
To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to about:config in Firefox
  2. Locate the browser.sessionstore.restore_from_crash boolean
  3. Change the value of this boolean to false

This should fix the issue.
Please report back with the result of this solution.

Please note that you are not running the most current version of Firefox.
This can pose various security and functionality issues.
If possible, please update to the most recent version of Firefox.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see a name without file extension.
You can see the real file extension (type) if you open the Properties of the file via the right-click context menu.

What is the current value of the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref if you check that on the about:config page?

You can open the about:config page via the location bar.

If the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once is set to true then it is most likely that you somehow got a user.js file that sets this pref to true.
Some security software or extension may have done this.

So please report the current value of this pref, user set and appearing bold with the value true or with the default value false.
