How do I downgrade from v.28 to v.26?
I have just updated to v.28. All the problems I and many others had with v.27 are now back, and the fix by removing "Cairo" from the Azure backend no longer appears to work. CPU maxxed out. Now had enough and want to reinstall v.26, but link https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox to install older version leads to pages of obscure and unexplained files and I have no idea which to download in order to downgrade. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks

You shouldn't downgrade to older versions, Firefox 26 is not secure and is open to dozens of security holes. What issues are you having in Firefox 28? I'm sure we can resolve them.
Hi Tyler Downer.
The problems I have been experiencing started with v.27. see posting: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../985969?esab=a&as=s&r=0&page=1
All the issues are well described in this posting. It appears to affect large numbers of users. The workaround provided by jigebren worked well, but the same workaround does not appear to be working in v.28. Firefox is now effectively unusable, sometimes taking minutes to download pages, and utilizing 100% CPU.
I want to return to v.26 until these issues are fixed, but cannot find which are the correct files to download.
26 is not an option, it's old and insecure and not safe to use on the web.
However, we can get you up and running with firefox 28. So it sounds like you have an issue with slowness when browsing the web? Can you please go to about:support in your url bar, click "Copy Text to Clipboard" and paste that data into this thread? That way I know what your specific configuration is so I can offer better advice.
Thanks!
In the end I downloaded Firefox Setup 27.0.1.exe.
This appears to have successfully "downgraded" Firefox to 27.0.1 and did not overwrite my settings. I was then able to incorporate Jigobren's workaround which works for v.27.0.1 but not for v.28 - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../985969?esab=a&as=s&r=0&page=1.
I have for now disabled automatic updates.

Please be aware that using Firefox 27 is critically insecure with several very famous exploits in the open, meaning you have a good chance of being hacked with that version
Hey Tyler, I too have constant issues with bloated CPU usage, spinning wheels with every new tab, or sometimes even as I type, and must constantly empty cache, and purge inactive memory, until I finally have to quit & reboot FF. I also am driven nuts by the screen jerking around, despite having smooth scrolling selected... Here's my info:

Steven, please ask a new question and we can better troubleshoot for you there. :)
Why would it be any better if I began a new thread? You asked the OP to do exactly what I just did, for the very same reason, as you also stated:
"However, we can get you up and running with firefox 28. So it sounds like you have an issue with slowness when browsing the web? Can you please go to about:support in your url bar, click "Copy Text to Clipboard" and paste that data into this thread? That way I know what your specific configuration is so I can offer better advice."
He, however, chose to go an downgrade, so I'm responding to the very same request, and since I have the same issue, slowness, no improvement over V.27, etc, what's the difference, you'll see the very same information there. And why even have the "I have this problem" button, if you must open a new thread, even if you have the same problem?
Tyler, I appreciate that downgrading is a serious step, however there are many hundreds of us who have problems using any version after v.26.
The issues are summarised by Jigebren here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/985969?page=3#answer-546599
This problem has been reported as bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=973149
Until this issue is solved, the latest version I am able to use is v.27.0.1 with Jigebren's workaround.
