I am using Firefox 30.0. I open a page that has links on it to see some PDF files. When I click on the link, Firefox use to open a new tab and display the PDF file. Now a new tab is opened, nothing gets displayed, and the new tab closes. What setting do I need to change in order to see the PDF file.

I have this problem too.

Some time ago (version 20 maybe, possibly earlier?) pdf documents did open in Firefox when this option was selected. Then there was a change in FF and they no longer did so, which caused a problem accessing a range of business documents.

On advice from this forum I changed the application setting to use Adobe reader (see attached image). Now, any pdf's selected via FF are just dumped into the downloads folder from where they can be manually opened using Adobe Acrobat reader. So, that method works - if you remember to look there for the docs.

A much better approach is to get FF to open Acrobat directly - not the built in plug-in (which one would think is a 2nd best option if acrobat is not installed on the machine - a rarity probably but it does happen), but the actual application. Failing that, a message box advice when the transfer is completed that the file is in the downloads folder as specified.

So, how about it? Fix FF so one of these 2 items occurs.
