When I open the browser, it automatically tries to log in to online banking

more options

Even though I have done the following, when I open Mozilla Firefox, it automatically attempts to log in to banking (then pops up a message saying the access details entered are wrong): I have: - Changed homepage to "blank page" - Run antivirus "deep scan" - Cleared cookies, passwords, history etc - Set security settings to highest possible. It also happened when I opened my Internet system control center, it asked for log in details, even though it was not supposed to.

It doesn't happen on Chrome.

No time to give a full reply, but please post your full troubleshooting information, and scan for malware with multiple and up to date tools.

Take extreme care.

  • It may well be a scam.
  • The pages opening may be fakes.
  • Your machine may be compromised and not safe for confidential information and financial transactions.
  • Certainly do not use the pages that open unexpectedly.

To find the correct solution to your problem, we require some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:

  • For Firefox versions previous to 29.0: Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting Information from the menu.
  • For Firefox 29.0 and above: Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

  • At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  • Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

If you start Firefox in the following way, does it still go to your bank's site?

From the Windows 8.1 start screen (second page, the one with the small icons), use Run (or hold down the Windows key on the keyboard and tap R) and type or paste:

firefox.exe "about:blank"
