Does Java even have a version 10.7? http://www.java.com/en/download/help/index_installing.xml?os=SUSE+Linux&j...

Please scan for malware. Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Sorry about that* wrong platform please see corel's comment

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Note that the OP is on Linux, so malware scanners for the Windows platform wouldn't apply.

Java 10.x.x refers to Java 7 versions (current is 10.67.2 = 7u67)and Java 11.x.x refers to Java 8 (current 11.20.2 = 8u20)

  • Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

You could give Java 8 a try to see if that version crashes as well.

It is definitely Java 7 Update 67. OK I will give Java 8 a try.

Ok. I should have written this before. Steps to recreate the problem I'm facing: 1. Go to www.scopus.com (in any linux environment in my case openSUSE) 2. Search a phrase in search box 3. Select the multiple search results using the check box. 4. Download them by clicking the download button. 5. A new browser window opens. 6. There is considerable delay both in case of windows and openSUSE. Java plugin successfully runs after the delay in case of windows but not in case of openSUSE. The IcedTea plugin doesn't crashes but doesn't work properly either.

Please, redo the steps and then post the results.
