I recently reinstalled windows 8.1 then imported/installed my FF profile and checked "Always check if Firefox is your default browser" in the Options>General window. I was then given a screen titled "Set associations for a program" where I could determine which extensions/protocols I want to allow. Some options were pre checked e.g .htm .shtml etc and some unchecked e.g .html .xht etc. I will try and upload a screen shot of the window.

I have just rechecked the "Set associations for a program" page and all extension checkboxes are checked and I can’t uncheck any of them.

Should all extensions/protocols be checked, and is it normal that I can't uncheck any?

Regards.

It seems to be a Windows issue.

In theory you can check any extension/protocol independently. According to me (but maybe I am wrong) the Always check if Firefox is your default browser feature only check the following protocols:

  • HTTP URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
  • HTTPS URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy

Did you also try to change the default program for extensions from the page Set Associations? (click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program) It is the opposite direction: you have the list of all extensions/protocols and change the default program, instead of check/uncheck associated extensions/protocols for each program.
