Thunderbird downloads my emails from my ISP. Thunderbird shows the number of messages downloaded, and the number of messages in my inbox increases, but I cannot see any of them. What is happening?

Try to repair the 'Inbox' folder. right-click 'Inbox - 'Properties - General Information - Repair Folder' Fixes most problems with issues in folders.
