Its been a while now, but this is what I remember. An automatic update of my Thunderbird (to 40?!?) dropped my (Lightning) calendar. That has happened before and USUALLY within a short time, Lightning 'updates' and that ADD ON is available and Lightning comes back 'on'. But this time it seems that an "Oops!" must have happened with the T-bird updates and the 40(?) level update 'dropped' BACK to '38' INCLUDING my calendar. Yippee! BUT then another update took T-bird to 38.01 or some such. And calendar disappeared and hasn't come back since.

I have read and tried to follow a few of the suggestions I have read when I followed the links offered by online support. But all without any change. One detail that sticks in my mind was being told to delete the 'Instructions'(?) folder in my Mozilla > Thinderbird folder. Welllll, there isn't such a folder! (hmmm, maybe that's a clue?) AND its not very reassuring to be told to 'delete' or even uninstall a program WITHOUT 'back up instructions' for important files such as Addresses and Calendar Events! Though while I can't find or see those files, they 'seem' to be stored somewhere because in my desperation to HAVE a calendar, I downloaded an App onto my (android) tablet and zap! all my calendar events showed up on it!

I do NOT see any 'Calendar'/Tasks etc. appear when I look at View or Tools either. I've used and very much like T-bird for many years now and would like to continue using it INCLUDING a calendar.

Thank you very much for any help in actually helping me with this very unhappy making problem.

Go to Tools|Add-ons|Extensions in Thunderbird.

Is Lightning listed there? If so, use the Remove option to remove it.

Then type Lightning into the search box at the top of the add-ons page and re-install it.

There is no "Instructions" folder in Thunderbird's profile. You have been misinformed or are suffering from imperfect recollection. Possibly you were advised to remove an Extension folder, as a way of removing Lightning.

It's not easy to find which of these holds Lightning; mine is named {e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103} and I found that only by searching each extension folder's chrome.manifest file for a mention of "Lightning". It's so much easier to go to Tools|Add-ons and delete it there.

No, Lightning is not listed in the Add Ons list accessed by Tools. I have also tried to follow the instructions of several Calendar suggested 'fixes' so YEP! my memory very well could be a bit muddled. My hubby, who's (separate) computer also 'lost' his (Lightning) Calendar, had Calendar 'pop' up as another Header option on his Tools > Options list. I haven't seen such a thing on mine (yet - though I'm open for a miracle like he got ;-).

Since the Calendar got 'bundled" with T-Bird from 38 on, perhaps the update that my computer did, didn't get that done correctly? I can find no evidence that my T-bird includes a calendar or option to 'open/select' it either. I'm sorry if this seems like a unique problem, but its one that I would greatly appreciate some inside assistance with. Any Ace Geeks want to take this on?

So, which part of my advice on installing Lightning are you unable to follow?

Zenos - I have tried to 'install' Lightning, several times! But about the closest I have gotten to doing that is to get to the Restart Thunderbird button in the Add Ons page and when I click that, Lightning does NOT get added nor does a calendar appear in my T-bird window (nor option in Tools/View). It has become very frustrating and puzzling to point that I joined the forum just to get this resolved.
