I can't select text and copy-paste it with shortcut keys Ctrl + A, Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V. Firefox crashes and stops responding and after sometime resume to be OK. Sometimes it shows a message as in the attached screenshot (got this when tried copying via Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V). I tried refreshing Firefox but no change.

That's not a crash message, it's a message about an unresponsive script that is related to a toolbar customization UI script.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When I tried safe mode, the problem seems to be gone. So, will I have to start Firefox in Safe Mode every time with add-ons disabled..?

No, reply yet..

Did you troubleshoot your extensions to zero in on the culprit?

My guess is that an extension which added an element (like a Toolbar button) to the UI (User Interface) is causing that script to take to long to run.

Another thing you can do is to use the Debug script button and see what appears in the debugging process. It might "name names" and lead us to the culprit more quickly.

Sorry this thread dropped off my radar and I didn't respond sooner.

I don't understand what you mean by "troubleshoot your extensions to zero in on the culprit?"

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.
