I was uploading to Dropbox and I was monitoring the send data with MS Resource Monitor and noticed two distinct separate streams. It looked as if FF was sending data back and forth to itself, while Dropbox was busy receiving data. Since I live in the woods I only have 0.50Mbps up load and FF was consuming about 45% of my available bandwidth.

The image shows what I am talking about. It is hard to explain and I don't know all the proper terminology.

Hi fey42, For more details on what is making a connection in Firefox, try the Light beam add on, it will show all of the connections that are being made by the open tabs. Or, what is built in to firefox you can open a window with the url: about:networking That will show all the dns info as well. Could be a separate up and down link?

Everything there is so far over my head, it was not any help to me, but might be to someone more skilled. I just thought it was strange that FF was sending and receiving exactly the same number of bytes and annoying that it was hogging my upload bandwidth.
