Step 1 learn Windows file selection shortcuts. https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/windows_fcab_select_files.mspx?mfr=true

Step 2 sort by what you want to delete. IE: Click the column header labeled DATE to sort by date. Select the date range you wish to delete. Press a Delete button.

I followed step 1 and went to the Web site. Step 1 says "open my documents" What program am I supposed to be in where it says "open my documents," I don't see it in Thunderbird or in Foxfire.

It also says... Press control+a to select all Hold the control key while clicking random items Click an item...move up or down several item..hold shift key and click another item to select a range of items.

I guess you skipped that part. FYI: your email is not in Your Documents.

I don't see where it says that nor do I know what program I'm supposed to be in when I press control-a.

Look, I'll make this very simple. I'm in Thunderbird. I created a file folder in my local folders called "old emails." I want to transfer all the emails in my "In Box" dated earlier than 2016 into the "old mails" file. How do I do it?

more options

You seemed to have found the My Documents that is totally unrelated. right above the part you are to read.

Cut and Paste from the link. Do one of the following: To select consecutive files or folders, click the first item, press and hold down SHIFT, and then click the last item.To select nonconsecutive files or folders, press and hold down CTRL, and then click each item.To select all the files and folders in the window, on the Edit menu, click Select All. or use control+a

nor do I know what program I'm supposed to be in You do this in the Thunderbird program. That is what you are asking about, No idea why you think anything else is involved.

I will make one more attempt.

Click on the column Header labeled DATE. This sorts by date Scroll down to the first message you want to move and LEFT click this message. Scroll down to the last message you want to move and hold the SHIFT key and LEFT click this message. Now MOVE your messages.

You might also read about ARCHIVING now that you have actually defined you want to do this by year. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages

If you are in Thunderbird and you see something that says "my documents" then you have a different version of Thunderbird because I see nothing that says "my documents." Your last bit of advice, however worked. Thank you.

Now please help me with another problem. I would like to run identical versions of Thunderbird from two different computers. Is this possible?

If you are not going to read the instructions I cannot help you.

You seem to have not learned some basic shortcuts and techniques. The material that Airmail has pointed out to you applies to many different situations. It's the concepts that you need to grasp, rather than the specific task being described.

Learn to sort and you'll be able to sort messages by date, so they are listed (for instance) oldest first, most recent last. Then you can select the top (oldest) one, move down to the cut-off date, and do a shift click. This will select all the messages above the cut-off, so you can delete them or move them. Sort by sender or subject or whatever else is appropriate.
